MALCOLM ROBINSON MEMORIAL COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD 2009

The Malcolm Robinson Memorial Community Service Scholarship, a $500 award, will be presented to one graduating high school student residing in the Greater Charlotte area to be used at the college or university of his or her choice.

The scholarship was named in honor of the late Malcolm Robinson, a former mentee in the 100’s Movement of Youth program.  Malcolm was a cancer survivor who also faced academic challenges and adverse peer pressure.  He worked hard to turn his life around, but died in an automobile accident weeks prior to beginning studies at Barber-Scotia College.

To be eligible, a candidate must be a high school senior in the Greater Charlotte area who shows dedication to community service, good citizenship and high moral and ethical principles.  The candidate must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average and show proof that they will attend a two-year or four-year post-secondary institution in the fall semester of 2009.

A two-page essay must be submitted together with a letter of recommendation from the high school guidance counselor.

Completed applications together with essays, letters and a copy of the most recent report card are due by Monday, April 27, 2009.

Call the office of 100 Black Men of Charlotte for more information at 704-375-7300, or email Charlottethe100@aol.com.
